Intro to Documentary Filmmaking Workshop

I’m pleased to announce my Intro to Documentary Filmmaking Workshop. It will be held February 6th at JPC Post Studio in Toronto.

Over the years I’ve run a number of filmmaking workshops for non-profit organizations, teaching them how to tell their own stories. I’ve spoken at various events, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals Annual Congress, on different ways to use video for fundraising. I’ve also had the privilege of assisting world-renowned filmmaker Philip Bloom (www.philipbloom.net) during his workshops in Toronto, Vancouver, New York and Miami. I’m looking forward to bringing all these experiences to this workshop.

Storytelling is at the heart of any good documentary. It’s not enough to simply document a particular subject. Like any good narrative film you need engaging characters, interesting locations, and above all a compelling story.

This 1-day workshop will explore the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking with a focus on the importance of storytelling. Cost is just $60 for the whole day (10 am – 4:30 pm).

Workshop Agenda

∙ Camera fundamentals

∙ Finding your story

∙ Pre-production planning

∙ Interview techniques

I have always been a big believer in learning by doing. This will be a hands-on workshop. Equipment, including cameras, lights, audio gear, sliders, etc will be on site for hands-on learning and demonstration.

Registration is limited to 20 to ensure lots of opportunity for attendees to participate.

When you register, please be sure to send me a description of your experience. All skill levels are welcome and the workshop will be tailored to the experience of the participants.
